About Once Upon A Time Toys

We started out in 1984 in a tiny storefront in the old Arcade in downtown Cleveland. In 1988, we opened in our current location in Rocky River. We have been staffed with friends and family over those many years and enjoy multi-generational relationships with many local families. Their support has carried us through competition with the internet and big box stores, and their continued support will insure that Rocky River will always have a “real” toy store to visit with the kids.

  • We are a family owned and operated neighborhood toy store serving generations of local families.
  • We are your neighbors and friends that have kids, grandkids, nieces and nephews just like yours.
  • We know how important getting the right toy is to you.
  • We know the toy world and what works best for special kids.
  • We gift wrap each toy to save you time and money.
  • We are so grateful for your support over the last 40 years. Thank you for shopping small!

We’ve been on the same corner in Rocky River for 36 years. Jack, the owner, is still working to find you the best toys. And he recently brought on new manager, Mary Monroe, to help. She has been a long time family friend (since birth) and Jack is like a second father to her. Please stop on in and say “Hello!” to Mary. She has a passion for toys and you will see the difference she has already made by sprinkling her magic throughout the store.

So that’s us. We’re not new, but we are a “real” toy store that provides creative hands-on toys that encourage social skills, rather than escaping into the virtual world.

“This place has been around since I was a kid and it's still worth a visit. They have a great assortment of battery free toys that your kids can really interact with instead of just staring at. All three of my boys always find something they want at this visit and something they want to come back for next time. They have a dizzying array of trucks as well as books, puzzles, and dolls. You'll be glad you came.”
